1.2080 - D3 tool steel is a very old alloy - it actually predates D2. It is though steel wear resistant but not particularly tough. It does though had a 'toothy' edge and slices nicely. It also while not a true stainless steel, does have very good corrosion resistance.
Spec:-
C: 1.90 - 2.20%
Cr: 11.00 - 13.00%
Mn: 0.20 - 0.60%
P: 0.030%
S: 0.030%
Si: 0.10 - 0.60%
Heat Treatment:
Heat to 940 to 980 Degrees Centigrade - Hold for 10 minutes
Oil or Air/Plate Quench - Hardness after quenching will be approx 64-66HRC
Temper for two hours at 200 Degrees Centigrade for approx 62HRC or 300 Degrees Centigrade for approx 60HRC
