Birdseye Maple

Birdseye Maple - Acer saccharum

Birds Eye forms around the log due to ’sleeping bud growth’, this shows as small dots in the wood. Other causes are: -Parasite fungi which causes irregularity in the cambium. Birdseye develop when the tree grows on barren and rocky ground. Birdseye Maple stains and polishes well, but is intermediate in gluing. Blanks are cut to size before drying to eliminate movement afterward, and then kiln-dried using a special method that insures optimum color without compromising the structural integrity of the wood
